Homeschool Isn't as Bad as We Imagine

Let me tell you, homeschool isn't as bad as we imagine it in our heads to be. I'm talking to those who have no experience in it, never researched but but have this picture that is so tedious.
Let me let you in on a secret, it's not.

Now some states have stricter guidelines, so check with your state for details but I guarantee it's not as bad as you imagine it to be.
We're starting our 1st full year and even though we started homeschooling last semester it was more of a "deschooling period". We kinda pieced things together.
For those who don't know what deschooling is, that is where you take a break from all things "school" letting the child recalibrate how they look at school.
This year we're ready.
There's so many ways you can homeschool (of course the options may vary depending on the age of your child); there's full online curriculum, textbook curriculum, accredited online schools, or you can do a mix of everything.
Here in my state we do have to keep attendance records and report cards. We also are required to cover the basic subjects (math, science, english, social studies) but what that looks like, is up to us. Gotta love it! Our school year is also required to be 170 days but we determine when we start and take breaks.
Homeschool perks!
Now my son is a junior this year so he's pretty much independent. He didn't want a virtual or online curriculum. Virtual school during COVID ruined that for him. Since he's the student I'm not going to force him to learn something or use a curriculum he doesn't like.
We're what you'd call unschoolers. He picks and chooses what he wants to learn. We use a mix of websites, YouTube videos, books, you name it.
We do have some non negotiable in there like Lifeskills. You know all those those you wished you learn in school, he's learning those and more.
Get ready to come along with us on the new journey.
Do you or have you ever thought about Homeschooling?
